Judge Jamal N. Whitehead Biography

The Honorable Jamal N. Whitehead is a United States District Judge for the Western District of Washington. He was sworn in on April 4th, 2023. 

Before taking the bench, Judge Whitehead was a shareholder at the Seattle law firm of Schroeter Goldmark & Bender, where he litigated civil cases in state and federal courts, including individual and class action employment law cases and tort matters. Before that, Judge Whitehead was a federal trial attorney in Seattle, working as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) and as a Senior Trial Attorney for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). He began his legal career as a commercial litigator at Garvey Schubert Barer (n/k/a Foster Garvey) in Seattle.

A leader in the legal community, Judge Whitehead has served on the boards of several local and statewide organizations and bar associations.

Raised in the Seattle area, Judge Whitehead earned his B.A. in political science from the University of Washington and his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law.
